'Under the Oaks' - a farmhouse dating from 1836!
Accommodation:
- A large, well-equipped & tastefully-furnished Dutch former farmhouse situated in the center of unspoiled Diever village
- Our farmhouse will provide all amenities for the most perfect stay in this historic Drenthe village which is situated at the heart of rural Netherlands and surrounded by areas of stunning natural beauty, including the largest wet-heathland in Western Europe at Dwingelderveld
New in the accommodation:
- The facilities at 'Under the Oaks' are being constantly upgraded and renewed
- As of July 2026, 95% of our large electrica! appliances are less than 2 years old!
- Planned renewal for winter 2026: renovation of the kitchen and bathroom

- Renewed in 2025: new 55' Smart TV/new washing machine/new dryer/new garden furniture/renovated staircase (including 2 child stair gates) and skylight window
Ground Floor:
- Large main room, with high ceilings and large windows. There are 2 long corner sofas plus armchairs to easily accommodate even the largest of parties. A Smart TV gives access to American, British and other European TV stations and there is a sound system and Blu-ray player plus a selection of movies on DVD, as well as a CD collection
- Kitchen with all modern amenities, including separate full-size fridge/freezer
- Dining area with dining tables (that can be expanded to accommodate larger groups) and a large coffee table
- The bathroom has a double swing-door walk-in shower
- The large downstairs double bedroom comes with a box-spring bed, Smart TV/Blu-ray player and a wall-to-wall built-in wardrobe
- Separate downstairs WC
First Floor:
- 3 twin bedrooms and 1 triple bedroom upstairs (6 out of the 9 beds are box-springs). 2 of these twin bedrooms and the triple bedroom are complete with washbasin
- 1 additional single bed (suitable for adult) and 2 canvas cots for babies / small children are available
- Separate upstairs WC
Additional Facilities:
- Fast and secure (optic cable) wireless internet access throughout the farmhouse
- 2 high chairs, a play rug & a vertical baby bath are all available
- For children, there are cupboards full of soft toys, electronic / board games, puzzles and books
- Safety features include a fire extinguisher, fire blanket, smoke/carbon monoxide detectors and 2 stair gates
- Comprehensive English-language tourist information available covering Diever village and the surrounding areas (including Friesland, its islands and Overijssel), as well as most major tourist attractions in the Netherlands is provided
- Library of English-language books
The grounds:
- There is ample off-street parking
- For your use there is a private patio with chairs, tables and parasols supplied, plus a trampoline. BBQ (coal) is available
- Bicycle-hire is available locally (which can also be arranged before arrival), with secure storage on site
Further information:
- Easy walking access to nearby grocery store, restaurants, bars, ice cream parlor, an award-winning bakery (one of the finest in the Netherlands!), souvenir shops, tourist office, as well as the village bird sanctuary, archaeological museum, megalithic stones and the Drents-Friese forest
- Guests have exclusive use of the front farmhouse, which adjoins the owner's property. The house is entirely self-contained with two entrances for full privacy
- A maximum of three well-behaved pets or two large dogs can be accommodated with prior notice (€25 per pet)
